Two years!
Wow! First, I haven’t made a blog post in a long time. Sorry. Life was just tiring. Plus I was trying to organize things like my websites, author stuff, etc. I am working on that though, I promise!
Two, it’s been TWO YEARS (as of yesterday) since we moved to South Carolina!
Let’s recap:
* April 2024 – Florida house was under contract, we were definitely moving! Packing was now top priority.
* May 2024 (beginning of month) – Mad dash to have everything packed, people scheduled (movers, notary, closing, etc), set up trash, water, electric, and internet at the new house, have water, electric, internet shut off at old house.
* May 2024 (middle of the month) – It’s moving time, baby!
* May 15 – Pick up moving truck in Winter Haven, meet the movers at the house, notary shows up while on video chat with the realtor who was at the new house. Finish with call, finish with notary. Movers finish. We take the last bits to the trash, shower, say goodbye to our Florida house!
* May 16 – Drop off moving truck at James’s new job (behind locked gates), go visit new house (so pretty), drive around our new area a bit, let the dogs out for a bit, wait at the hotel before we can finally check in! Shower and sleep!
* May 17 – CLOSING DAY! Meet with realtor at the house, tiny issue that realtor fixes on the way to close on the new house. Closing finishes, meet the movers at the new house with the moving truck. Everything is all moved in and we are HOME!
* May 2024 – May 2025 – One year down! We had met new people, explored a lot! had family come visit, Went back to Florida for a quickie visit (Fanboy Expo in Orlando), Had a small house gathering, had a friend come stay with us for a bit). It was an interesting year.
* May 2025 – May 2026 – Got a new car! Friend stayed until October (got to spend lots of time with two cuties!). Went to visit family, found an amazing dog sitter, explored some more, lost someone close to us.
All in all the past two years haven’t been bad. We found some amazing local eatery spots, both got semi new jobs (James a new company), me a promotion. This place is home. The location is perfect. Not super close to Augusta or Columbia, but still within easy driving distance. Right off the highway for easy access. Across from a golf course so neighbors are fairly quiet! Gas stations within minutes, Starbucks within minutes, Waffle House now within minutes! Close enough to still see some wonderful kids and spend time with them (thank you again Josh and Meredith for sharing!)
When we first moved to Florida years ago, we thought we had found our home. We really enjoyed it. The ONLY reason we left was because I was an idiot and thought I needed to be closer to my cousins child (who we were supposed to be Godparents to – turns out we were never meant to be Godparents at all, just a bank – long story). Our move to North Carolina brought us some great people and experiences (Sarah, we miss you!) Moving back to Florida we did so FOR others and we realized our hearts don’t belong there anymore. When we picked Graniteville it was completely by accident. We were aiming for Augusta, GA! The house we fell in love with was in a cute community in South Carolina (just over the GA/SC line). So that’s where we ended up. Now, the house we loved wasn’t available when we actually were going to move, but a brand new house (same layout) was. That’s what we got.
So, happy two years in our home!
A decade together!
