Happy Eight Years!
About eight years and four months ago James and I were planning our move to Florida. We had just dealt with a ton of crap from trying to buy a house in Maryland (I’ll make a post about that next week). I had been thinking a lot about our wedding and while I would have loved to do a big thing, I just couldn’t imagine either of us enjoying it much. You know what we would enjoy? A cruise. So I looked at a calendar. I counted the days from his birthday to mine and smack in the middle of that was January 21st.
“Hear me out, what if we didn’t have a big wedding? What if we just got married, down here by ourselves on the 21st? It’s right between both our birthdays and it’s in January so it will be easy for you to remember.” – Me
We thought about it some more and talked about it on our numerous car rides. Then we both just agreed. It felt right.
So we moved to Florida, I ordered a dress online (not a white dress, but one that just looked pretty). In January on one of our days off we took a trip to the court house to obtain a marriage license. The process wasn’t horrible and we had an appointment to come back on January 21st. A Thursday.
That morning we both had off of work (obviously). We got dressed, were both nervous as hell and headed to the court house.
They took us into a room that was pretty well decorated, we said our vows, kissed and bam! Married.
We did take a small photo in the car to prove it happened and headed home to change and make our way up to Orlando for the day.
We ate at Firehouse subs for lunch on International Drive. Stopped by America’s Escape Game to book a time for later that evening and then made our way down to Wonderworks.
The people at the escape room were super shocked, and thrilled to hear we had just tied the knot earlier that morning. They loved that we were spending our wedding doing something fun. (They even gave us two free shirts, gift certificates to SeñorFrogs and a Congratulations card signed by all of their employees when we got back for our appointment. It was SUPER cute and thoughtful!)
We didn’t do anything for dinner (mostly because we were both crazy and didn’t take Friday off work, so we both had to work in the morning). All in all though, it was a beautiful day.
About three and a half months later we took an eight night cruise on the Carnival Splendor to the Southern Caribbean (stops were: Grand Turk, La Romana, Curacao, and Aruba). We announced our marriage with a group of people from the ship on a private beach in La Romana.
Now for the mushy part!
I’m so thankful that James and I are together. We’ve been through a lot over the years. Losing family members, moving, job changes, lots of cruises, starting a business together, taking adventures. It’s been a very amazing and crazy eight year. I can’t wait to see what the next year brings us. I have no idea how he puts up with me, but he does. Heck, I have no idea how I put up with him some days, but I do!
Happy anniversary my love. You are my favorite person. <3
